Hasina, owner of Pink Diamond Martial Arts, shares her top tips to feel empowered and to support other owner, too.
My club is where women of all size, race and religion come together for one reason, to learn martial arts and feel empowered! These women are not only learning amazing self-defence skills that we see in the movies and practice on our siblings… but also building self-confidence from the inside out.
The common issue that seems to arise within my classes is acceptance. We need to learn to accept ourselves just as we are and that we are all different yet unique.
My own journey into self-acceptance and confidence started with learning martial arts. Martial Arts really helped me combat my own self confidence issues I struggled with in my teenage years. It has helped me to learn to love myself, my faith and being comfortable in my own skin. As your body gets stronger, you start to achieve more, have more confidence to grade for belts and enter tournaments. You find a new confidence within you that was always there but locked away. Once you release that inner confidence there in no limit to what you can achieve!
What makes Pink Diamond Martial Arts unique is, it’s a female only, no judgement, no hate club! When my students step into the venue, it doesn’t matter if they are a university student, a doctor or a mother of seven…..they are there for one reason, to become a Pink Diamond, strong, confident martial artist! That one hour class of MMA or Muay Thai is their time, to do something for them and put themselves first. Our busy lifestyle sometimes takes priority, leaving women feeling unhappy and depressed. Always take timeout to do physical activities, whether it’s walking, running or martial arts!
Women are very capable of learning MMA, competing in tournaments and becoming strong and powerful. Do not let your fear or society tell you, you cannot do something being a woman. Work hard, write down your goals and achieve them!
So what does female empowerment mean to me?
It means to be happy in your own skin and to achieve greatness. To have gratitude and to believe anything is possible with faith, determination and hard work. I am a Muslim mother of two boys that does not fit with the typical stereotype Muslim women we see or hear of. I wear a hijab and I am a martial arts coach for women. It doesn’t stop me from achieving my dream or being who I am. Any woman of any race or religion can be empowering and be empowered. Women need to support other women, there is enough negativity in the world already. My aim is to join communities together for the love of martial arts, with a strictly no hate policy. I have had my ups and downs in life, the struggles of self-hating and wanting to be accepted. But now I have learnt to love my imperfections, my failures and dark circles…..it makes us who we are!
So here are my Pink Diamond ninja top tips:
1. Accept yourself just as you are.
We are all different and amazing. Be proud of who you are and don’t be afraid to follow your dreams! Don’t compare yourself to others, this is your journey.
2. Be strong for your mind and body.
You can exercise five times a week and still not be happy with yourself. Work on your mind set, to have a positive outlook on life and be proud of every step you take towards your goal.
3. Always support other women.
We need to support each other! Whether its motivation to carry on or a kind word someone needs to hear, be there for each other.
4. Never give up.
The road may be long and hard, but the results at the end will be well worth it. That moment when you feel like you can’t carry on, push past it.
5. Hard work pays off!
Work on your discipline and commitment in life, in whatever you do…and I promise you it will pay off!
