Spirituality, the Law of Attraction and journaling are all making headlines in the health and wellness industry, so we thought it high time to chat with Emma Mumford a.k.a Spiritual Queen about her journey.
Emma is an award-winning life coach, blogger, YouTuber, speaker and best-selling author of ‘Spiritual Queen’. Emma is the host of the popular podcast ‘Spiritual Queen’s Badass Podcast’ available on iTunes, Spotify and Acast. Emma also has her own Law of Attraction merchandise available online.
What’s your Why? What do you stand for?
My why is to help people lead a more positive and purposeful life through the law of attraction including their soul led business. I stand for helping people to free themselves of doubt and negativity and choose a positive life where you can create your reality and achieve your dreams.
What’s your origin story, as in why you switched your business completely?
I actually started off in a very different industry six years ago after falling into £7k debt thanks to an ex-boyfriend, I started my brand ‘Extreme Couponing and Deals UK’ with the aim of helping women to save money, coupon and get out of debt themselves. The brand took off really quickly and I had no idea I could even earn money from just wanting to help people. Within two years I had fully monetised my brand and the press quickly got on board and everything took off beyond my wildest dreams. I had a regular money-saving slot on ITV’s ‘This Morning’ and was known as the UK’s Coupon Queen. After putting couponing on the map here in the UK and helping over half a million followers save money, I realised the brand had got too big for me and I had outgrown the brand too. I had spiritually awakened by this point in 2016 and wanted to share more of my wellness and spiritual journey rather than money-saving to help people live a more positive and purposeful life. After selling my couponing brand back in 2018 I decided to go full-time with my Spiritual Queen brand after running it and slowly re-branding for the last two years.
You have an impressive toolkit to support you with day-to-day life. Why is it important to make time for mindfulness, affirmations etc?
I always believe if you can’t dedicate ten minutes a day to yourself in the morning to do some journaling, practise gratitude or affirmations do you even have a life at all? It doesn’t need to be a lengthy practise but by simply dedicating ten minutes in the morning to your practices can really set you up for the day positively and can even attract unexpected positivity and abundance.
You have been working with incredible brands and people: who is your ideal collaboration with?
My ideal collaboration that’s a tricky one! I love working with brands and enjoy creating content for them especially if I’m travelling, so any hotel collaborations abroad would be great as I love exploring the world and don’t get to do it often enough due to my schedule.
You create loads of content in many formats, which one you enjoy the most?
I actually really enjoy creating my podcast, it was something I put off for a long time as I could never see the benefit personally. Then about two years ago I took the plunge and I’m so glad I did as I really enjoy creating solo casts and having exciting guests come on each week for an interview. With over 150k listens so far it has been one of my fastest growing platforms and new followers find me frequently through it which is also a great benefit.
When partnering with brands and bloggers, what criteria do you look for?
For me personally, since rebranding, I tend to focus less and less on working with brands nowadays. I now only work with brands I’m really passionate about – if I love their products if they have a positive message behind the brand or are eco-friendly. I don’t believe in just promoting a brand for the sake of it as I know my followers really respect my opinion and it needs to be in alignment with my brand and ethics.
What advice would you give someone thinking of starting a business on their own?
Everyone starts in the same place – at the beginning. I often hear during my business coaching sessions that clients are so afraid of just actually getting out there and doing their passion.
Your uniqueness is your superpower and even the most successful people have all started with 0 followers, 0 views and had basic knowledge and equipment in their trade.
If you have a message to share then it’s important you share this with the world and trust that the right people will always find your work.
Do you have a mentor or are you one?
Surprisingly I’ve never had a mentor in all my business journey, but I’ve always had incredible friends around me who lift me up and inspire me. I myself am a mentor within my book publishers ‘That Guy’s House’, I’m currently mentoring 7 lovely ladies to bring their books to life and grow their platforms over the next ten months through a mentoring programme with my book publisher. I also provide 1-to-1 life and business coaching online which is open to everyone where I cover a wide variety of topics from spirituality to self-help.
What is the book you would recommend that everyone reads and why?
My ultimate book recommendation has to be ‘The Universe Has Your Back’ by Gabrielle Bernstein. I love her work and this book found me at a really pivotal stage in my life where I was trying to control a lot in my life and felt very lost. It’s great for those of you who struggle to trust the divine plan, surrender and detach from your manifestations.
What piece of industry advice do you often hear that you disagree with and why?
I would say this is probably more to do with coaching rather than all industry’s but I often hear so much rubbish around what to charge your clients and ‘knowing your worth’.
At the end of the day, you should always charge what feels in alignment for you as a brand.
Don’t let anyone influence that as this is your soul led business and you have to feel comfortable with your pricing. Ask yourself ‘what would be a fair energetic exchange?’ and realistically ‘what is my time and experience worth?’
