Christmas is sneaking up on us once again; the John Lewis advert has been let loose and the chilly weather has confirmed that winter is well and truly here.
As well as the obvious gift shopping and travel arrangements you’ll be doing over the next few weeks, there are also some other things you can do to help get you ready for the festive season if you’re a health blogger.
Here are my top 5 tips to prepare Christmas, blogger style:
1. Schedule your posts to give you time to switch off
Christmas is all about spending time with friends and family, not being glued to your phone.
Whilst the festive season is a great time to share tips and tricks with your readers, make sure you’ve used these last few weeks to schedule in blog posts, tweets and e-newsletters across the holidays so you don’t need to be gripped to your laptop while someone’s carving the turkey on the 25th.
2. Write your Christmas list and turn it into a blog post
Everyone loves writing a Christmas wish-list. It’s a tradition we’ve all been keeping since we were children, so why stop now?
Your Christmas gift ideas could also make a great blog post for your readers. Think of it as rolling two jobs into one: you can pass the list to your family and guarantee yourself some lovely presents, as well as inspiring your followers to put a few healthy treats on their own lists.
3. Plan your exercise and keep moving
It can be easy to let routines slip during the holidays as we enter a season to eat, drink and be merry.
By all means make sure you take a break over Christmas, I’m not denying you that third mince pie with your feet up! But if you want to stay on top form it’s a great idea to stay moving and find ways to incorporate a bit of exercise into your holiday time.
Do your research before the break creeps round – if you’re going to be in a different town check out where the running routes are, or whether there’s a walking group you could join for a couple of sessions. Can you use your gym membership where you’ll be or buy a guest pass for a local one or a swimming pool for the week?
Or why not think about signing up to a mini-challenge or programme that is designed to fit into the holidays. Twelve Day Marathon is a great example – encouraging you to walk, jog or run 26.2 miles from 25th December 2017 to 5th January 2018. A great thing to do with friends and family.
4. Pinterest your heart out
Christmas is made with the food and it’s great to have a few healthy alternatives up your sleeve to whip out for family get-togethers.
Pinterest is your friend here. If you haven’t already got one, start a Healthy Christmas Recipes board and get pinning your favourite recipes as you go. It’s great to have them all in one place when you need them.
Or why not start a collaborative Pinterest board with some of your bestie blogger friends? They’re a great way to build a following and share your own content, as well as getting inspired by others.

5. Relax and enjoy!
Let’s be realistic. Christmas isn’t going to be the top time for losing pounds or hitting your PBs. Don’t beat yourself up if you’re not sticking to a strict schedule or regime.
It takes 500 calories per day (or 3,500 calories per week) above your normal/maintenance consumption to gain one pound. It is impossible to gain weight from saying yes to one piece of Christmas pudding!
Take the focus off food when you can: going for a family walk, playing games or doing something crafty instead of revolving your activities around eating can make all the difference.
