It’s International Women’s Day and, as international women’s day goes, it’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate incredible people, in this case, incredible women.
Since the HBC is a team of ladies, we thought it was fair to give awesome humans a spotlight, so we asked our HBC community members and our members from the Whole Influence Network to share with us some of their #girlcrushes for International Women’s Day.
Samantha Couzens – HBC Team, Communications & Events Manager
“One of the women I find most inspiring is Dame Darcey Bussell, a retired English ballerina and leading figure within the world of ballet. She’s seen incredible success in her lifetime, yet is humble, kind and down to earth, not to mention a beautiful dancer. She was the reason I loved ballet and inspired me to attend classes for 16 years, something I (in hindsight) believe to have been the ultimate act of self-love growing up. I wish I’d had the chance to see her perform.”
Amy Meegan – HBC Dublin Ambassador
“Miriam (Kerins) Hussey (@mirkerins_integratedwellness) is the co-founder of The Awakening and Soul Space, alongside her husband Gerry Hussey. Miriam is a trained pharmacist but felt fed up handing out a pill for every ill and so decided to quit the day job and follow her passion in integrated wellness and functional medicine.
I met Miriam through The Awakening, a series of holistic mornings involving yoga and reflective exercises and it is through these mornings that she positively impacted me. Her approach to life and confidence to follow her passion inspires me and every time we meet now I feel so happy and content in myself walking away. Yes, I am aware it sounds like I have a massive girl crush but if you met her you’d know what I mean!”
Rachel Chaltham – Founder of the WellConnect
“There are just so many women who have positively impacted my life and career. In terms of public figures, Oprah Winfrey and Brene Brown are favorites of mine, I love their empowering messages. I have also been very inspired by Kristina Karlsson and the brand she has created (Kikki K). In the London wellness market, people I know and work with regularly, there are so many, but I definitely give props to Lauren Armes (WelltoDo Global) who has always inspired me in business and encouraged everyone in our industry to go after what they want. And finally, my own mum who worked my whole life and showed me you can be a career girl and still have it all – there are so many, I know, I just can’t choose between them all.”
Cam Dempster – HBC Bristol & South West Ambassador
“I’m writing about the brilliant Gemma Shoots People. Gemma Regalado-Hawkey (@gemmashootspeople) – she’s an entrepreneur who has so much authenticity it shines through <3 I met her through Instagram and contacted her about shooting for one of our HBCxBristol events. Ever since you’re just become friends and even walk our dogs together. The other day she wrote on social “I honestly don’t want to work with anyone I couldn’t happily have a coffee, or a dog walk, or a bottle of wine with” She is a ray of sunshine and a pleasure to call a friend and colleague!”
