Satya Kothimangalam is the brand strategist and founder of ZAG Studios. She helps service-based businesses create highly profitable brands and websites that help them grow their revenues faster.
We caught up with her this week to see why copy is important in every context and for some tips and tricks on how to set up your own website.
I had always wanted to be an entrepreneur, so a few years ago I went to work for a whole bunch of tech startups doing marketing, sales and fundraising. After about 4 years, I realised that I didn’t want a job anymore and instead wanted to turn my skills into a consulting practice.
So I set my up own company!
Most of my clients come to me wanting help with packaging up their services in a more profitable way. I help them to position themselves as a premium brand and ensure they have a message that reflects their own personality, as well as the quality of their work.
Getting intentional with your message
Copy is one of the most essential aspects of having a successful company, but it’s not just your website where this is important. In fact, copy is important in EVERY context – whether you’re writing a love letter to your partner or selling your services to a client. Don’t be fooled into thinking you can just put “anything” on your website and it’ll still make you money. It’s not true. At all.
Words impact us on an emotional level – and we make all our decisions from an emotional plane. Whether you’re an influencer, brand or business owner, getting intentional about your message is super important.
If you’re not intentional about the words you’re using, you’re not playing to win. It’s as simple as that.
When it comes to being productive, there are a couple of tools I use to ensure I stay on track. I absolutely love the Pomodoro method for example: chunks of 30 minutes to get a task done, then taking a break and then working for another 30 minutes.
I’m also a big fan of having theme days.
Setting up your own website
My top tip for setting up your own website (aside from working with me! Haha, just kidding) is to get clear on the problem you are solving and why your solution is better than everyone else in your market.
When you talk 100% in terms of the problem and solution – you get sales.
It’s also important to get help if you’re feeling overwhelmed with setting up your site and your copy. There are so many talented people you can work with who’ll help you get it done quickly, so you can go out there and start making more money!
We specialise in getting it done in 1 week – so take advantage of that!
If you want to get some clarity on your brand message – you can book a BrandQuest with us. Alternatively if you want some (free) help around making your packages more profitable, here’s my best resource.
