As health bloggers, we have been eyeing fermented drinks since they entered the market. Our friends at Whole Foods Market are embracing the trend big time, introducing delicious fermented drinks to their stores for you to fill your tote bags with.

Probiotic drinks recolonise your gut by providing healthy strains of beneficial microflora. These probiotic drinks have the ability to build a defence against candida and fight poor bacteria.

If you are still new to the fermentation trend and are not sure whether it’s going to be part of your next shop, fear not, we are here to help you with a quick guide. You can also win the chance to try a selection of fermented drinks courtesy of Whole Foods Market at the end of this post!

Cheers to kombucha

Kombucha is a delicious dose of goodness for your gut, low in sugar and packed full of naturally occurring probiotics, antioxidants, vitamins, enzymes and amino acids.

Essentially it is a living, nutrient-rich drink that not only tastes amazing (imagine cider without the hangover) but also happens to have beneficial properties that have been proven to help digestion, increase energy, detoxify the organs and balance blood sugar levels.

Kombucha is loaded with billions of good probiotic bacteria, beneficial yeasts, amino acids, digestive enzymes, antioxidants and polyphenols — basically, it’s a sparkly powerhouse that tastes delicious.

Kefir three ways

Kefir (a drink we have been talking about quite a lot recently) is a traditional fermented milk drink that transforms cow’s milk into a delicious, refreshing and nourishing drink for all the family to enjoy.

Kefir has many benefits including better digestion of fats, proteins and carbs, reduced sugar cravings, and immunity enhancing properties. It has also been known for thousands of years for its anti-ageing properties.

As kefir’s popularity has been growing over the past year, more and more brands have been experimenting with the probiotic drink creating new blends, such as water based Kefir, which is basically a probiotic water that ensures maximum potency and vitality.

If you still like the creaminess of milk, but cannot digest dairy, we recommend you give coconut milk based kefir a go!

To win a selection of probiotic kombuchas (from Captain Kombucha, Karma Kombucha, Equinox Kombucha) and kefirs (from Pure Earth, Kefir Zing, Rhythm Coconut Kefir) carefully picked by Whole Foods Market enter our giveaway below.

Competition ends on Monday 31st July.
