Health and wellness books are booming and there is so much more choice nowadays when walking into a book store or browsing online.
As founder and editor of online women’s bookclub GozenGirls, it’s safe to say that Donna Hay has read A LOT of books, with one of her favourite genres being health and wellness.
We asked Donna to share her three favourite health and wellness books that she simply couldn’t live without.
Health and wellness books have had a huge impact on my own life and I love the positive messages and positive lifestyle changes that follow from reading these books. Here are a few of my favourite books that I couldn’t imagine not having on my bookcase!
Rushing Woman’s Syndrome by Dr Libby Weaver
This book. Where to start. It’s had SUCH a huge impact on me. As a 20-something female ‘entrepreneur’ building her own business from the ground up, I am a serial rusher. Some days I feel like the ‘to-do’ list is endless and my calendar is one big mix mash of colours – meetings here, calls there, deadlines.
That was until I read this book.
I knew my body was reacting to the rushing and stress of a fast paced life. I was suffering with PCOS and IBS and my go to the minute I woke up in the morning was a coffee. What I didn’t think about was that it was probably my lifestyle that was causing the sugar crashes, the caffeine cravings and the periods that were all over the shop.
Dr Libby will teach you all about your hormones, your glands, your body and how stress and rushing from here to there can have a massive negative affect on your health. I don’t want to give too much away but I can’t stress (no pun intended!) how important this book is for women everywhere.
First We Make the Beast Beautiful by Sarah Wilson
I’ve read a few books on the subject of anxiety but this one has been the most memorable. Beautifully written, and perfectly put. Detailing Sarah’s own journey with anxiety, the book had me from the first few pages.
I will say that I don’t think it’s a book for anyone who is currently experiencing high levels of anxiety but I would say if you’ve ever experienced anxiety to some degree this book perfectly depicts how anxiety can make you feel.
It made me feel less alien that’s for sure.
I love the look and feel of the book – it’s a hardback but it is beautiful and has been such a talking point amongst my friends when they see it sitting on my shelf.
The Goddess Revolution by Mel Wells
This book was a real gamechanger for me.
I was so sick and tired of seeing airbrushed photo after airbrushed photo, skinny shaming, fat shaming and so much pressure to be a certain size or weight in the media that my own self confidence was taking a tumbleweed. It was my Mum who introduced me to this book after she saw Mel talk.
After reading the book I felt more confident, more at home and sure of my own skin and my own body.
There is so much in here about body confidence and lifestyle choices. I learnt about the nurturing foods that make you glow from the inside and the outside and how to make the right choices for me using my intuition.
I experienced big shifts from this book and it’s become one of those books I’ve gifted to many other women. It should be compulsory learning in school!
These are just three of my favourites and three I am forever grateful for. But there are so many more…join us over at GozenGirls and discover many more books that’ll make you feel good.
