Ruth from Nutritiously Naughty – About me
My website, Nutritiously Naughty, is a food blog specialising in Coeliac-friendly, gluten-free, refined sugar-free, healthy recipes. The majority of my recipes are influenced by the low-fodmap diet which is well known for making life with digestive disorders and food allergies more manageable. It has definitely helped me a lot! Many of the recipes I create can be ready within 30 minutes, making them perfect for after work, busy parents or simply those looking for quick and nutritious meals. I occasionally eat fish and chicken but much prefer plant-based foods so there are plenty of recipes for vegetarians and vegans.
I was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease in 2012, then IBS in 2016, and they completely affected my view of food. I already liked to cook and didn’t eat junk food, but I didn’t eat a lot of fruit and veg either. I found that the gluten-free options offered on prescription in supermarkets were limited, tasteless, stodgy and full of sugar (this has changed so much in recent years!). I really started to miss flavoursome food and was running out of things to cook so decided to explore the world of clean eating and becoming obsessed with fruit and veg!
I would love to help and inspire other people who are suffering from digestive conditions like myself, including Crohn’s Disease, IBS, IBD and food allergies. After I was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease I lost my love for food; it wasn’t until I started buying healthy recipe books and reading clean eating blogs that I realised how delicious, healthy and simple free-from food can be. It’s amazing what you can do with just a few natural ingredients!
I am sharing my story and recipes in the hope of making the experience easier for those also struggling with their love for food post-diagnosis. Ironically my IBS diagnosis, which encouraged me to follow the low-fodmap programme, fuelled my love for cooking even more as I was more determined than ever to create gut-friendly recipes! My dream for the future is to release a healthy recipe book providing simple, affordable, Coeliac-friendly, low fodmap and refined sugar free recipes for people with digestive disorders as well as those interested in eating more simple and healthy food. I am a firm believer in ‘everything in moderation’ and have a major sweet tooth, so I love creating recipes that show people indulgence doesn’t have to be unhealthy!
How I got into Blogging/Instagramming
My friends and family have always loved it when I cook for them and are constantly making requests. I’m not complaining though, there could not be a bigger compliment in my eyes! I first started instagramming when so many people in my life encouraged me to do something about my passion for food and creating simple, healthy and affordable recipes. This eventually gave me the confidence to do so.
The post you’ll love…
Vanilla Sponge Cake with Chocolate Icing. I am so proud of this recipe! I was determined to create a light and fluffy sponge cake recipe that was gluten-free, refined sugar-free, dairy-free and low fodmap, so I refused to leave the kitchen until it happened. I have tested this cake recipe on a lot of different people and they could not believe it was made with alternative ingredients! I love it so much and I hope you do too!
