What does it take to be a health blogger? Do you have to constantly have a green smoothie in hand, workout five times a week, sprinkle spirulina on everything, and never let a deep-fried chip touch your lips? No, of course not. Even we love a bar of dairy milk chocolate and glass (or three!) of wine. Here to show that being healthy isn’t prescriptive is our team of balanced and beautiful health bloggers, who have kindly agreed to share with us their typical day. {HINT: they’re not balancing bowls of nice cream on their feet whilst doing headstands!}

Alex from My Vibrant Kitchen shares with us her typical day

Meet Alex

I’m Alex, a London-based, 20-something vegan food blogger. Originally I’m from Germany, moved to Canada when I was 16, then to Holland and finally settled in the UK (for now). When I transitioned into Veganism I started getting more creative & crazy in the kitchen and started My Vibrant Kitchen.

My typical day

The first thing I do after waking up is meditate for 10 minutes with my boyfriend (one of our new year’s resolutions!). Then we head to the kitchen make a cup of coffee or tea and have breakfast together. After breakfast my working day begins.
Depending on the day, I either edit photos and write a blog post, start cooking up a storm in the kitchen (aka recipe testing) or take food photos for the next blog post.
For lunch I usually eat whatever meal I prepared for the blog earlier – I hate wasting food. After a bit more blog work, I like to leave the house. Either to buy ingredients for upcoming recipes or to go to our nearest park for a late afternoon stroll. Today my boyfriend and I took our flatmate’s dog for a long and slightly wet walk and it was lots of tail-wagging fun!
We’re lucky to share a big house with five of our friends who all like to cook delicious veggie food. We take turns to prepare communal dinners and end the day together, eating delicious, wholesome food, chatting, laughing and enjoying eachother’s company.
Before bed I usually spend some time on social media, posting photos and connecting with my lovely readers. I’m trying to get better at having 30 phone & computer free minutes right before going to bed and reading a good book instead. At the moment it’s ‘Northern Lights’ by Phillip Pullman and it does the trick.

The mantra I live by

I wouldn’t necessarily call it a mantra but I like to maintain balance in my life. Whether it’s eating a balanced vegan diet, a mixture of wholesome vegetable dishes, vegan pizza, fresh fruit and indulgent dessert, or finding a good balance between spending quality ‘me time’ as well as time with family, friends and my boyfriend. And of course, one of the most important balances in life, the work-life balance. The last one I’m still trying to master, maybe because my work started out as a hobby.

The one thing I can’t live without…

Music. I’m the kind of person who’s always listening to music no matter what I’m doing. Baking, going for a run, tidying, grocery shopping… I’ve always got my favourite new album playing on repeat.
