In the world of social media, bloggers, You Tubers and influencers, it’s fair to say that many of us are in love with our jobs. Meaning it’s easy to forget to stop and take a break. 

Whether the online world is your full time job or part time, it’s easy to sacrifice your day off to cram in all that extra content creating. When you love what you do, there isn’t a problem, right?

It’s important to remember we all need time to rest. We all need to take a day off.

Like when we lift weights or train, as much as we may love it, we still need that rest day as it allows our muscles to recover and grow… the same concept goes for our brain.

Self care is finding things and way which benefit you and your body in a positive way. Allowing you to grow as a person and form a better relationship with yourself.

So, why do we need self care? Giving yourself respect and care creates a healthy mindset and enhances the relationship you have with yourself.

When you consider your mental and physical health, you can identify your needs and what makes you perform your best.

Doing little things which you know will benefit you and your body, no matter how big or small, will lead to a big impact on you and your happiness.



Self care has a huge impact on you both internally, externally and mentally. As you practice self care, you will begin to also reduce your stress levels.

Stress is one of the biggest causes of physical and mental illnesses such as anxiety, depression, IBS, weight gain and generally lowering your immune system. So, by reducing your bodies stress levels and being a kinder to yourself, you are automatically going to reduce the risk of these negative effects.



One of the simplest yet extremely effective things you can do for yourself. Take yourself out on dates and fall in love with your own company.

Whether you take yourself out to your favourite cafe for a delicious lunch, head to a coffee shop, stick your head phones in and go for a walk or even take yourself shopping. Whatever it may be find a comfort in your company which will positively influence the way your treat yourself.



With yoga you become mindful and aware of your body and mind. You become in contact with the present moment allowing you to slow down and find a state of relaxation.

Through the power of yoga and meditation you can start to face anything holding you back or begin to let go of things you’ve been holding onto. With slowing down your body, it allows you to slow down your mind, truly giving it some time off from all its racing around.


Spend five minutes to reflect on thing you are grateful for. Finding gratitude allows you to celebrate your life in the present moment, highlighting positive feelings and appreciation. Start with 2 to 3 things you are grateful for at the beginning of your day, then work your way up to more! You’ll find the more you do it, the more gratitude you’ll discover each day.


Getting outside can have a positive influence on your physical and mental health. As we are so engrossed in technology and social media, it’s nice to strip everything back and simply get outside. Try going for a walk, jog or run, a bike ride or even take your regular HIIT session outside!



Breathing exercises are something you can do anytime and anywhere which can help calm and relax the body naturally. Whether you feel anxious, overwhelmed, stressed or rushed.

Take 5 minutes to stop and get the oxygen flowing back around. Try sitting comfortable, closing off your eyes, breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, breathe out for 4 seconds, and hold for another 4 seconds and repeat for however long you need it. Then see how you feel.

Don’t forget next time you decide to skip your day off, just how important it actually is for the mind. Remember to reclaim your day off.
