My name is Joey O’Hare, and I’m a chef. After running a pop-up in 2016 which focused on veg-centric and fermented foods I’ve now teamed up with Ursel Barnes, founder of High Mood Food, to launch our first café in Marylebone in London.
Ursel Barnes and I were put in touch by a mutual friend (and fermentation guru!) in December of 2016 and I remember being instantly fascinated by her concept – a new health food café with a unique focus on fermented foods for gut health!
Ursel has always taken a holistic approach to health and has a deep understanding of how our gut health is intrinsically linked to our overall wellbeing.

At the moment our broth of the day is so popular.
It changes daily between organic chicken or beef bone broth, or white miso broth, each infused with Thai aromatics such as ginger and lemongrass. It’s really nourishing and a perfect pick-me-up in the cold!
I love our organic blackberry & kefir smoothie.
Once you’re hooked on the tang of kefir there’s no going back! The fermentation process means that kefir is easier to digest than other dairy drinks, and lower in natural sugar too.
Three things you should know before launching a cafe
- Customer feedback is everything! All feedback is so helpful, and we’re very lucky to have such awesome regulars already.
- Roll with the teething process. Learning and progressing each day is all part of the fun! Nothing will be perfect on day one.
- Check sheets are super helpful in almost every situation.
