What a night the That Protein & HBC Health Blog Awards 2016 turned out to be! Thank you so much to everyone who came along, a big shout out to our fantastic judges, and a HUGE congratulations to our wonderful winners. If you were unable to make the event, don’t worry. Here’s a roundup of what went down on the night.

Where?

Hosted at the super stylish and spacious, yet intimate and cosy venue, The Collective Old Oak, the Health Blog Awards was a celebration of the very best new and upcoming talent in the health blogging world. A collaboration between the Health Bloggers Community and That Protein, this was the first ever awards ceremony to recognise the success and influence of heath bloggers.13407313_1160606670647426_7044342219838675726_n

The food and drink

As soon as guests arrived, they were greeted with a red carpet photo op and a welcome mocktail, prepared by the fantastic Amanzi Tea. Guests chose from a selection of delicious iced tea blends, including a refreshing Aloe Matcha Booster, a sweet Cherry Punch, a tasty Elderflower Rose and a zingy Ginger Matcha Lemonade. These teas certainly went down well and were the perfect refreshment for the warm weather! The event was catered by the lovely guys at Soulmate Food. The soul-nourishing and fully vegetarian menu included freshly prepared beetroot cous cous with goat’s cheese salad and a raw vegan noodle salad, as well as banana chocolate rocky road and orange flapjacks – an absolute hit with our health bloggers!13445540_1160606163980810_6483478224708334952_neDIT 1
The Judges

The Collective: Co-working, Community and Chance Encounters

Once everyone had taken their seats, our fantastic host and founder of the HBC, Fab, began a Q & A with our judges: Zanna Van Dijk, Hazel WallacePixie Turner and Darlene from That Protein. The girls answered Fab’s questions with openness and honesty, and gave extremely heartfelt advice to a room full of bloggers who were intently absorbing their wisdom.

Our judges didn’t shy away from topics like how to collaborate with brands and price yourself as a blogger. They discussed just how much influence you can have over others through social media, and that this isn’t always a good thing. They advised against amateurs give nutrition and fitness ‘advice’ without reputable training or scientific research to back it up.
Arguably one of the best pieces of advice they gave on the night was to ‘be yourself’. Your readers want to know who you truly are; they want to be able to relate to you, get to know you and feel like they are your friend. Zanna recommended writing posts that you yourself would want to read, in a conversational tone, as if you’re talking to a friend. Pixie urged bloggers to only collaborate with brands they truly loved, whilst Hazel encouraged bloggers to include a disclaimer if they don’t come from a medical, nutritional or fitness background.

  How to Stay Motivated

After the Q & A, there was a mini break with lots of photos and even more mocktails, before the awards ceremony finally got underway. There were eight UK categories and one EU category. You can find a complete run down of our winners and sponsors on the Health Blog Awards website, but below is a quick summary of the categories, sponsors and winners.13450273_1160606653980761_1394987710919249344_n
