Foodie Spotlight: Eighty Twenty Nutrition

I’m a South African who moved from Cape Town to Surrey in the UK three years ago.  My day job is a Paleo blogger, recipe developer and food photographer, by evening I’m a mum and wife to my beautiful teenage daughters and amazingly supportive husband.  My blogging started with a demand to share my recipes and creations from my Instagram account, from which my main love for photography developed. I started taking photos on my iPhone and then grew into my Nikon D7000 which then started an addiction for styling props and other photography gadgets – yes, trust me it’s a slippery slide!

I work with many health brands using their products for recipe development then styling and photographing to share on both of our social media platforms (cricket flour has got to be my most interesting product – yes ground up crickets!). My family’s opinions count and if they do not approve of a recipe then it is back to the drawing board.  Photos styled beautifully can make anything look delicious but if the recipe is weak then my readers won’t return to my website.  It is all about finding a happy balance, in both blogging and family life!

My dietary lifestyle

We follow a Paleo diet.  After many years of thinking that I was feeding my family a healthy diet, it took reaching rock bottom with major health and hormone issues to re-evaluate my diet and lifestyle.   Gluten, grains and sugar turned out to be my nemesis and since changing to a diet that consists of fresh vegetables, grass-fed meat and low in hormone loaded dairy, my body has started to recover. I feel full of life and way younger than my 44 years.

My favourite recipe…

It has to be my most recent recipe: Raspberry and Rose Milkshakes. They just look so pretty and taste amazing (I adore rose flavour). I aim to make healthy food exciting and appealing to everyone.
