HBC Foodie: Dower & Hollingsworth
Hi there! We are Effie Dower and Emma Hollingsworth – two London-based ladies with a passion for healthy food and wellbeing. Two years ago, after feeling sluggish, lethargic and generally rubbish, we embarked on a journey of active-avoidance, positivity and self-acceptance. We cut out gluten, sugar, dairy, caffeine, alcohol, chemicals and additives from our diets, instead opting for whole foods and fresh, organic produce wherever possible. And we felt SO much better for it.
However we found that a lot of the healthy recipes we’d started making required loads of expensive and hard to find ingredients and were often a little complicated, which inspired us to get in the kitchen and get our creativity on. We started creating delicious, simple and healthy recipes to replace those nasty foods of yester-year and we haven’t looked back!
Our first blog-aversary
We started our blog Dower & Hollingsworth in March last year (we just celebrated our first blog-aversary, with cacao and nut butter of course) and it’s just been the most amazing journey. We’ve met some of the most awesome people ever and we’re so grateful for all the incredible support and love we’ve had along the way. We can’t wait to see where D&H takes us and we’ve got some very exciting things up our sleeve so we can’t wait for the next chapter!
We follow a gluten-free, dairy-free, refined sugar-free and plant-based diet, which is reflected in the recipes we post on our blog. But nobody’s perfect right? (and anyway how boring would that be!) which is why we believe in what we call ‘active-avoidance’ – we try and stick to this way of eating as much as possible, but if our bodies do crave something we wouldn’t normally eat, we’ll have a little and we’ll enjoy it while we’re at it, no guilt allowed!
Our favourite recipe
It’s so hard to choose just one favourite recipe but if we had to pick, we’d probably go with our ‘nutella’ filled chocolate chip banana bread – it’s just divine even if we do say so ourselves! Oh and it’s a bit like us really – nuts and bananas! 🙂
