What does it take to be a health blogger? Do you have to constantly have a green smoothie in hand, workout five times a week, sprinkle spirulina on everything, and never let a deep-fried chip touch your lips? No, of course not. Even we love a bar of dairy milk chocolate and glass (or three!) of wine. Here to show that being healthy isn’t prescriptive is our team of balanced and beautiful health bloggers, who have kindly agreed to share with us their typical day. {HINT: they’re not balancing bowls of nice cream on their feet whilst doing headstands!}

Meet Jessica

I am the author of One Part Plant and host of the One Part Podcast and The Cookbook Deal. It’s my mission to get everyone on this planet to eat at least one plant-based meal a day. I also works to raise awareness for endometriosis and women’s health issues.

My typical day

Wake up and have breakfast with my son Sid while my husband, Dan, does his thing to get ready for work. Dan comes and hangs with us for a while and gets Sid dressed for school and my day officially begins.

For breakfast, I’ll grab a juice and have a slice of toast with some almond butter, sliced strawberries, and chia.

Start in on emails. I spend a lot of my day scheduling interviews for my podcast, planning my cookbook tour events, or getting my accountant everything she needs for my taxes. Lots and lots of emails! Mornings are also when I like to cook and shoot recipes for my site. You really need that good morning light to make dishes shine.

I’ll usually take a break around noon and workout. Sometimes it’s a class, but it’s usually a jumping session on my rebounder or a class on Aaptiv. I like to knock it out and get back to work.

Lunch is next. I usually have leftovers from the night before if I’m not meeting someone for a lunch meeting. I love spending as little as possible on lunch…so leftovers are my favourite!

I tend to do my podcast interviews later in the day after lunch. I love being able to just really focus on them and not think about emails or a giant to do list. And if I’m not doing an interview, I’m editing next week’s show, or doing an interview myself about my book or One Part Plant mission.

Around 4:45, I leave to pick up little dude at school. I usually walk and listen to music or a podcast to just have some time alone.

Come home. Feed, bath + put Sid to bed. Hang with my husband and we make dinner. Dinner usually involves whatever veggies I have in the fridge, tossed with a spicy peanut sauce over brown rice. Or lately I’ve been cooking out of The First Mess cookbook. I love Laura’s recipes so much.

After dinner it’s more emails, and I make a to do list for the next day. Around 9pm or 10pm, I try to shut it down and go read or watch something fun like Jane The Virgin or Great British Baking Show. I’m working on shutting it down earlier…but right now, that’s just not gonna happen. I’m really passionate about what I’m doing right now and getting my book out to the world!

The one thing I can’t live without…

Real, whole foods. The old me never ate these and the old me wasn’t very happy and always in a lot of pain (from my endometriosis). I truly need good food to be a productive and happy person.
